Why Argan Oil is Great

Only found in the southwestern region of Morocco can you find the Argan tree. The oil can be traced back over 3,500 years and is considered a rare and valuable oil that has been used for centuries by the Berber people of Morocco in food and skincare. In ancient times it was used in body care for a variety of different purposes, from a skin moisturizer to a conditioner and treatment for skin conditions. It was also used as a dietary supplement as the oil was believed to have numerous health benefits.

Today, the popularity of argan oil has increased drastically but it is still produced by hand due. It is a labor-intensive process that involved cracking open the nuts by hand, roasting them, and then grinding them into a paste. The paste is then pressed to extract the oil. The oil remains an important part of the economy and culture of Morocco and the Argan forest has been designated as a Biosphere Reserve in recognition of its cultural and ecological importance. Cool, hey? But besides its cultural importance and history, it is a great skincare ingredient for quite a few reasons.

What makes it so special for skincare is that it is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids that help protect the skin and hair from environmental damage. On the skin, it helps nourish and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a gentle oil and is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and dry because it helps soothe and calm dry and irritated skin. The fact that is also non-greasy and absorbs quickly, makes it a perfect addition to face oil and haircare products. A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that Argan oil significantly improved skin hydration and reduced roughness in postmenopausal women.

In hair care, argan oil is often used as a conditioning treatment to help repair damaged hair and reduce frizz. It can help to nourish and moisturize the hair, making it feel softer and more manageable. A study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences found that Argan oil improved the overall quality of hair and reduced hair breakage. It can also help to protect the hair from heat damage and UV radiation. It is a common ingredient in haircare products (which is why you can find it in all of our conditioner bars) because it is rich in vitamins and minerals that may stimulate hair growth. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that have been noted to help reduce dandruff and the flakiness and itchiness associated with it.

Argan is rich in a combination of vitamins and minerals that make it a great ingredient in your body care products. Period. It contains high levels of vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from free radical damage. Omega-3 Fatty Acids, are important for maintaining healthy skin and hair. Plant sterols called schottenol, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and may help reduce redness and irritation in the skin. Carotenoids may help protect the skin from UV damage, and squalene, which is a natural moisturizer that can help improve the texture and appearance of the skin.
